Match Report vs Leeds Carnegie
As expected this was always going to be one of the toughest games for the U14 team with Concord looking to avenge their defeat to Leeds from last year.
Leeds got off to a quick fire start in Q1 with very accurate and quick passing taking the lead. As the quarter progressed Concord started holding their own with the score after the first quarter at 6-4 to Leeds.
In Q2 Concord got off to a much better start scoring first and playing more settled netball . They defended more convincingly and scored freely, however, an injury timeout to Claire at GD meant a change in the team line-up but Concord continued to play well and pulled the scoring back in Q2 to go into half time only one behind Leeds at 11-10.
Q3 saw the return of Claire at GD following some treatment on her knee with Tori replacing Cara. Leeds again got off to a quick start and taking an early lead again scoring 3 very quick goals in the first 2 minutes of this quarter but Concord fought back with valuable interceptions and strong defence. Leeds continued to be consistently strong in all areas and were rewarded for their consistency by winning the quarter with the score at 16-13.
The final quarter saw Rebecca replace Jess at GS however, Leeds took control scoring 4 goals in the first few minutes leaving Concord with a mountain to climb, however, there were some good passes and one especially good move with WD (Emily) taking a penalty pass against Leeds GD passing it long direct to GA (Fran) who quickly passed to GS (Rebecca) who then successfully scored. Although Concord fought back it was just too little too late and Leeds finally won the game by 22-17.
Overall it was a close match with both sides playing very well and Concord coming away with 2 points from the game for remaining within 5 goals of their oppositions final score. Every point helps!!
